א׳שִׁ֖יר מִזְמ֣וֹר לְדָוִֽד׃

1A song. A psalm of David.

ב׳נָכ֣וֹן לִבִּ֣י אֱלֹהִ֑ים אָשִׁ֥ירָה וַ֝אֲזַמְּרָ֗ה אַף־כְּבוֹדִֽי׃

2aCf. Ps. 57.8–12. My heart is firm, O God;I will sing and chant a hymn with all my soul.

ג׳ע֭וּרָֽה הַנֵּ֥בֶל וְכִנּ֗וֹר אָעִ֥ירָה שָּֽׁחַר׃

3Awake, O harp and lyre!I will wake the dawn.

ד׳אוֹדְךָ֖ בָעַמִּ֥ים ׀ יְהֹוָ֑ה וַ֝אֲזַמֶּרְךָ֗ בַּלְאֻמִּֽים׃

4I will praise You among the peoples, O ETERNAL One,sing a hymn to You among the nations;

ה׳כִּי־גָד֣וֹל מֵעַל־שָׁמַ֣יִם חַסְדֶּ֑ךָ וְֽעַד־שְׁחָקִ֥ים אֲמִתֶּֽךָ׃

5for Your faithfulness is higher than the heavens;Your steadfastness reaches to the sky.

ו׳ר֣וּמָה עַל־שָׁמַ֣יִם אֱלֹהִ֑ים וְעַ֖ל כׇּל־הָאָ֣רֶץ כְּבוֹדֶֽךָ׃

6Exalt Yourself over the heavens, O God;let Your glory be over all the earth!

ז׳לְ֭מַעַן יֵחָלְצ֣וּן יְדִידֶ֑יךָ הוֹשִׁ֖יעָה יְמִֽינְךָ֣ וַעֲנֵֽנִי׃

7bCf. Ps. 60.7–14. That those whom You love may be rescued,deliver with Your right hand and answer me.

ח׳אֱלֹהִ֤ים ׀ דִּבֶּ֥ר בְּקׇדְשׁ֗וֹ אֶ֫עְלֹ֥זָה אֲחַלְּקָ֥ה שְׁכֶ֑ם וְעֵ֖מֶק סֻכּ֣וֹת אֲמַדֵּֽד׃

8God promised in the sanctuarycin the sanctuary Or “by God’s holiness.” that I would exultingly divide up Shechem,and measure the Valley of Sukkoth;

ט׳לִ֤י גִלְעָ֨ד ׀ לִ֤י מְנַשֶּׁ֗ה וְ֭אֶפְרַיִם מָע֣וֹז רֹאשִׁ֑י יְ֝הוּדָ֗ה מְחֹקְקִֽי׃

9Gilead and Manasseh would be mine,Ephraim my chief stronghold,Judah my scepter;

י׳מוֹאָ֤ב ׀ סִ֬יר רַחְצִ֗י עַל־אֱ֭דוֹם אַשְׁלִ֣יךְ נַעֲלִ֑י עֲלֵי־פְ֝לֶ֗שֶׁת אֶתְרוֹעָֽע׃

10Moab would be my washbasin;on Edom I would cast my shoe;I would raise a shout over Philistia.

י״אמִ֣י יֹ֭בִלֵנִי עִ֣יר מִבְצָ֑ר מִ֖י נָחַ֣נִי עַד־אֱדֽוֹם׃

11Would that I were brought to the bastion!Would that I were led to Edom!

י״בהֲלֹֽא־אֱלֹהִ֥ים זְנַחְתָּ֑נוּ וְֽלֹא־תֵצֵ֥א אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים בְּצִבְאֹתֵֽינוּ׃

12But You have rejected us, O God;God, You do not march with our armies.

י״גהָבָה־לָּ֣נוּ עֶזְרָ֣ת מִצָּ֑ר וְ֝שָׁ֗וְא תְּשׁוּעַ֥ת אָדָֽם׃

13Grant us Your aid against the foe,for human help is worthless.

י״דבֵּאלֹהִ֥ים נַֽעֲשֶׂה־חָ֑יִל וְ֝ה֗וּא יָב֥וּס צָרֵֽינוּ׃ {פ}

14We shall triumph with God,who will trample our foes.

א׳לַ֭מְנַצֵּחַ לְדָוִ֣ד מִזְמ֑וֹר אֱלֹהֵ֥י תְ֝הִלָּתִ֗י אַֽל־תֶּחֱרַֽשׁ׃

1For the leader. Of David. A psalm.O God of my praise,do not keep aloof,

ב׳כִּ֤י פִ֪י רָשָׁ֡ע וּֽפִי־מִ֭רְמָה עָלַ֣י פָּתָ֑חוּ דִּבְּר֥וּ אִ֝תִּ֗י לְשׁ֣וֹן שָֽׁקֶר׃

2for the wicked and the deceitfulopen their mouth against me;they speak to me with lying tongue.

ג׳וְדִבְרֵ֣י שִׂנְאָ֣ה סְבָב֑וּנִי וַיִּֽלָּחֲמ֥וּנִי חִנָּֽם׃

3They encircle me with words of hate;they attack me without cause.

ד׳תַּֽחַת־אַהֲבָתִ֥י יִשְׂטְנ֗וּנִי וַאֲנִ֥י תְפִלָּֽה׃

4They answer my love with accusationand I must stand judgmentaand I must stand judgment Or “but I am all prayer”; meaning of Heb. uncertain, but see v. 7.

ה׳וַיָּ֘שִׂ֤ימוּ עָלַ֣י רָ֭עָה תַּ֣חַת טוֹבָ֑ה וְ֝שִׂנְאָ֗ה תַּ֣חַת אַהֲבָתִֽי׃

5They repay me with evil for good,with hatred for my love.

ו׳הַפְקֵ֣ד עָלָ֣יו רָשָׁ֑ע וְ֝שָׂטָ֗ן יַעֲמֹ֥ד עַל־יְמִינֽוֹ׃

6Appoint someone wicked over him;may an accuser stand at his right side;

ז׳בְּ֭הִשָּׁ֣פְטוֹ יֵצֵ֣א רָשָׁ֑ע וּ֝תְפִלָּת֗וֹ תִּֽהְיֶ֥ה לַחֲטָאָֽה׃

7may he be tried and convicted;may he be judged and found guilty.

ח׳יִֽהְיוּ־יָמָ֥יו מְעַטִּ֑ים פְּ֝קֻדָּת֗וֹ יִקַּ֥ח אַחֵֽר׃

8May his days be few;may another take over his position.bhis position Meaning of Heb. uncertain.

ט׳יִֽהְיוּ־בָנָ֥יו יְתוֹמִ֑ים וְ֝אִשְׁתּ֗וֹ אַלְמָנָֽה׃

9May his children be orphans,his wife a widow.

י׳וְנ֤וֹעַ יָנ֣וּעוּ בָנָ֣יו וְשִׁאֵ֑לוּ וְ֝דָרְשׁ֗וּ מֵחׇרְבֽוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃

10May his children wander from their hovels,begging in search of [bread].

י״איְנַקֵּ֣שׁ נ֭וֹשֶׁה לְכׇל־אֲשֶׁר־ל֑וֹ וְיָבֹ֖זּוּ זָרִ֣ים יְגִיעֽוֹ׃

11May his creditor seize all his possessions;may strangers plunder his wealth.

י״באַל־יְהִי־ל֭וֹ מֹשֵׁ֣ךְ חָ֑סֶד וְֽאַל־יְהִ֥י ח֝וֹנֵ֗ן לִֽיתוֹמָֽיו׃

12May no one show him mercy;may none pity his orphans;

י״גיְהִי־אַחֲרִית֥וֹ לְהַכְרִ֑ית בְּד֥וֹר אַ֝חֵ֗ר יִמַּ֥ח שְׁמָֽם׃

13may his posterity be cut off;may their names be blotted out in the next generation.

י״דיִזָּכֵ֤ר ׀ עֲוֺ֣ן אֲ֭בֹתָיו אֶל־יְהֹוָ֑ה וְחַטַּ֥את אִ֝מּ֗וֹ אַל־תִּמָּֽח׃

14May God be ever mindful of his father’s iniquity,and may the sin of his mother not be blotted out.

ט״ויִהְי֣וּ נֶגֶד־יְהֹוָ֣ה תָּמִ֑יד וְיַכְרֵ֖ת מֵאֶ֣רֶץ זִכְרָֽם׃

15May GOD be aware of them alwaysand cause their names to be cut off from the earth,

ט״זיַ֗עַן אֲשֶׁ֤ר ׀ לֹ֥א זָכַר֮ עֲשׂ֢וֹת חָ֥֫סֶד וַיִּרְדֹּ֡ף אִישׁ־עָנִ֣י וְ֭אֶבְיוֹן וְנִכְאֵ֨ה לֵבָ֬ב לְמוֹתֵֽת׃

16because he was not minded to act kindly,and hounded to death the poor and needy man,cthe poor and needy man The psalmist himself; cf. vv. 22, 31. one crushed in spirit.

י״זוַיֶּאֱהַ֣ב קְ֭לָלָה וַתְּבוֹאֵ֑הוּ וְֽלֹא־חָפֵ֥ץ בִּ֝בְרָכָ֗ה וַתִּרְחַ֥ק מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

17He loved to curse—may a curse come upon him!He would not bless—may blessing be far from him!

י״חוַיִּלְבַּ֥שׁ קְלָלָ֗ה כְּמַ֫דּ֥וֹ וַתָּבֹ֣א כַמַּ֣יִם בְּקִרְבּ֑וֹ וְ֝כַשֶּׁ֗מֶן בְּעַצְמוֹתָֽיו׃

18May he be clothed in a curse like a garment,may it enter his body like water,his bones like oil.

י״טתְּהִי־ל֭וֹ כְּבֶ֣גֶד יַעְטֶ֑ה וּ֝לְמֵ֗זַח תָּמִ֥יד יַחְגְּרֶֽהָ׃

19Let it be like the cloak he wraps around him,like the belt he always wears.

כ׳זֹ֤את פְּעֻלַּ֣ת שֹׂ֭טְנַי מֵאֵ֣ת יְהֹוָ֑ה וְהַדֹּבְרִ֥ים רָ֝֗ע עַל־נַפְשִֽׁי׃

20May GOD thus repay my accusers,all those who speak evil against me.

כ״אוְאַתָּ֤ה ׀ יֱ֘הֹוִ֤ה אֲדֹנָ֗י עֲֽשֵׂה־אִ֭תִּי לְמַ֣עַן שְׁמֶ֑ךָ כִּי־ט֥וֹב חַ֝סְדְּךָ֗ הַצִּילֵֽנִי׃

21Now You, O GOD, my Sovereign,act in my behalf as befits Your name.Good and faithful as You are, save me.

כ״בכִּי־עָנִ֣י וְאֶבְי֣וֹן אָנֹ֑כִי וְ֝לִבִּ֗י חָלַ֥ל בְּקִרְבִּֽי׃

22For I am poor and needy,and my heart is pierced within me.

כ״גכְּצֵל־כִּנְטוֹת֥וֹ נֶהֱלָ֑כְתִּי נִ֝נְעַ֗רְתִּי כָּאַרְבֶּֽה׃

23I fade away like a lengthening shadow;I am shaken off like locusts.

כ״דבִּ֭רְכַּי כָּשְׁל֣וּ מִצּ֑וֹם וּ֝בְשָׂרִ֗י כָּחַ֥שׁ מִשָּֽׁמֶן׃

24My knees give way from fasting;my flesh is lean, has lost its fat.

כ״הוַאֲנִ֤י ׀ הָיִ֣יתִי חֶרְפָּ֣ה לָהֶ֑ם יִ֝רְא֗וּנִי יְנִיע֥וּן רֹאשָֽׁם׃

25I am the object of their scorn;when they see me, they shake their head.

כ״ועׇ֭זְרֵנִי יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֑י ה֖וֹשִׁיעֵ֣נִי כְחַסְדֶּֽךָ׃

26Help me, O my ETERNAL God;save me in accord with Your faithfulness—

כ״זוְֽ֭יֵדְעוּ כִּי־יָ֣דְךָ זֹּ֑את אַתָּ֖ה יְהֹוָ֣ה עֲשִׂיתָֽהּ׃

27that all may know that it is Your hand,that You, O ETERNAL One, have done it.

כ״חיְקַֽלְלוּ־הֵמָּה֮ וְאַתָּ֢ה תְבָ֫רֵ֥ךְ קָ֤מוּ ׀ וַיֵּבֹ֗שׁוּ וְֽעַבְדְּךָ֥ יִשְׂמָֽח׃

28Let them curse, but You bless;let them rise up, but come to grief,while Your servant rejoices.

כ״טיִלְבְּשׁ֣וּ שׂוֹטְנַ֣י כְּלִמָּ֑ה וְיַעֲט֖וּ כַמְעִ֣יל בׇּשְׁתָּֽם׃

29My accusers shall be clothed in shame,wrapped in their disgrace as in a robe.

ל׳א֘וֹדֶ֤ה יְהֹוָ֣ה מְאֹ֣ד בְּפִ֑י וּבְת֖וֹךְ רַבִּ֣ים אֲהַלְלֶֽנּוּ׃

30My mouth shall sing much praise to GOD;I will acclaim in the midst of a throng,

ל״אכִּֽי־יַ֭עֲמֹד לִימִ֣ין אֶבְי֑וֹן לְ֝הוֹשִׁ֗יעַ מִשֹּׁפְטֵ֥י נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃ {פ}

31because [God] stands at the right hand of the needy,to save them from those who would condemn them.

א׳לְדָוִ֗ד מִ֫זְמ֥וֹר נְאֻ֤ם יְהֹוָ֨ה ׀ לַֽאדֹנִ֗י שֵׁ֥ב לִֽימִינִ֑י עַד־אָשִׁ֥ית אֹ֝יְבֶ֗יךָ הֲדֹ֣ם לְרַגְלֶֽיךָ׃

1Of David. A psalm. GOD said to my lord,amy lord I.e., the king, who leads his army on campaigns. “Sit at My right handwhile I make your enemies your footstool.”

ב׳מַטֵּֽה־עֻזְּךָ֗ יִשְׁלַ֣ח יְ֭הֹוָה מִצִּיּ֑וֹן רְ֝דֵ֗ה בְּקֶ֣רֶב אֹיְבֶֽיךָ׃

2GOD will stretch forth from Zion your mighty scepter;hold sway over your enemies!

ג׳עַמְּךָ֣ נְדָבֹת֮ בְּי֢וֹם חֵ֫ילֶ֥ךָ בְּֽהַדְרֵי־קֹ֭דֶשׁ מֵרֶ֣חֶם מִשְׁחָ֑ר לְ֝ךָ֗ טַ֣ל יַלְדֻתֶֽיךָ׃

3bMeaning of verse uncertain. Your people come forward willingly on your day of battle.In majestic holiness, from the womb,from the dawn, yours was the dew of youth.

ד׳נִשְׁבַּ֤ע יְהֹוָ֨ה ׀ וְלֹ֥א יִנָּחֵ֗ם אַתָּֽה־כֹהֵ֥ן לְעוֹלָ֑ם עַל־דִּ֝בְרָתִ֗י מַלְכִּי־צֶֽדֶק׃

4GOD has sworn and will not relent,“You are a priest forever, a rightful king by My decree.”ca rightful king by My decree Or “after the manner of Melchizedek.”

ה׳אֲדֹנָ֥י עַל־יְמִֽינְךָ֑ מָחַ֖ץ בְּיוֹם־אַפּ֣וֹ מְלָכִֽים׃

5My Sovereign is at your right hand—crushing kings in the day of divine anger.

ו׳יָדִ֣ין בַּ֭גּוֹיִם מָלֵ֣א גְוִיּ֑וֹת מָ֥חַץ רֹ֝֗אשׁ עַל־אֶ֥רֶץ רַבָּֽה׃

6[God] works judgment upon the nations,heaping up bodies,crushing heads far and wide.

ז׳מִ֭נַּחַל בַּדֶּ֣רֶךְ יִשְׁתֶּ֑ה עַל־כֵּ֝֗ן יָרִ֥ים רֹֽאשׁ׃ {פ}

7My lorddMy lord Heb. “He”; cf. v. 1. drinks from the stream on his way;therefore he holds his head high.eholds his head high A sign of victory; cf. 3.4; 27.6.

קי״א

א׳הַ֥לְלוּ־יָ֨הּ ׀ אוֹדֶ֣ה יְ֭הֹוָה בְּכׇל־לֵבָ֑ב בְּס֖וֹד יְשָׁרִ֣ים וְעֵדָֽה׃

1Hallelujah.אI praise GOD with all my heartבin the assembled congregation of the upright.

ב׳גְּ֭דֹלִים מַעֲשֵׂ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה דְּ֝רוּשִׁ֗ים לְכׇל־חֶפְצֵיהֶֽם׃

2גGOD’s works are great,דwithin reach of all who desire them.awithin reach of all who desire them Meaning of Heb. uncertain.

ג׳הוֹד־וְהָדָ֥ר פׇּעֳל֑וֹ וְ֝צִדְקָת֗וֹ עֹמֶ֥דֶת לָעַֽד׃

3הSplendid and glorious are God’s deeds;וGod’s beneficence is everlasting;

ד׳זֵ֣כֶר עָ֭שָׂה לְנִפְלְאוֹתָ֑יו חַנּ֖וּן וְרַח֣וּם יְהֹוָֽה׃

4זrenowned are God’s wonders.חGOD is gracious and compassionate—

ה׳טֶ֭רֶף נָתַ֣ן לִירֵאָ֑יו יִזְכֹּ֖ר לְעוֹלָ֣ם בְּרִיתֽוֹ׃

5טgiving food to those who show reverence,יand ever mindful of the covenant—

ו׳כֹּ֣חַ מַ֭עֲשָׂיו הִגִּ֣יד לְעַמּ֑וֹ לָתֵ֥ת לָ֝הֶ֗ם נַחֲלַ֥ת גּוֹיִֽם׃

6כrevealing powerful works to this people,לand giving them the heritage of nations.

ז׳מַעֲשֵׂ֣י יָ֭דָיו אֱמֶ֣ת וּמִשְׁפָּ֑ט נֶ֝אֱמָנִ֗ים כׇּל־פִּקּוּדָֽיו׃

7מTruth and justice are God’s handiwork—נwhose precepts are enduring,

ח׳סְמוּכִ֣ים לָעַ֣ד לְעוֹלָ֑ם עֲ֝שׂוּיִ֗ם בֶּאֱמֶ֥ת וְיָשָֽׁר׃

8סwell-founded for all eternity,עעwrought of truth and equity.

ט׳פְּד֤וּת ׀ שָׁ֘לַ֤ח לְעַמּ֗וֹ צִוָּֽה־לְעוֹלָ֥ם בְּרִית֑וֹ קָד֖וֹשׁ וְנוֹרָ֣א שְׁמֽוֹ׃

9פRedeeming this people,צ[God] ordained the covenant for all time;קholy and awesome is God’s name.

י׳רֵ֘אשִׁ֤ית חׇכְמָ֨ה ׀ יִרְאַ֬ת יְהֹוָ֗ה שֵׂ֣כֶל ט֭וֹב לְכׇל־עֹֽשֵׂיהֶ֑ם תְּ֝הִלָּת֗וֹ עֹמֶ֥דֶת לָעַֽד׃ {פ}

10רThe beginningbbeginning Or “chief part.” of wisdom is reverence toward GOD;שall who practice it gain sound understanding.תPraise of [God] is everlasting.

קי״ב

א׳הַ֥לְלוּ־יָ֨הּ ׀ אַשְׁרֵי־אִ֭ישׁ יָרֵ֣א אֶת־יְהֹוָ֑ה בְּ֝מִצְוֺתָ֗יו חָפֵ֥ץ מְאֹֽד׃

1Hallelujah. א Happy are those who fear GOD,who are ardently devoted to God’s commandments.

ב׳גִּבּ֣וֹר בָּ֭אָרֶץ יִהְיֶ֣ה זַרְע֑וֹ דּ֖וֹר יְשָׁרִ֣ים יְבֹרָֽךְ׃

2ג Their descendants will be mighty in the land,ד a blessed generation of the upright.

ג׳הוֹן־וָעֹ֥שֶׁר בְּבֵית֑וֹ וְ֝צִדְקָת֗וֹ עֹמֶ֥דֶת לָעַֽד׃

3ה Wealth and riches are in their house,ו and their beneficence lasts forever.

ד׳זָ֘רַ֤ח בַּחֹ֣שֶׁךְ א֭וֹר לַיְשָׁרִ֑ים חַנּ֖וּן וְרַח֣וּם וְצַדִּֽיק׃

4ז A light shinesaA light shines Or “[God] shines as a light.” for the upright in the darkness;bthey are Or “[God] is.” gracious, compassionate, and beneficent.

ה׳טֽוֹב־אִ֭ישׁ חוֹנֵ֣ן וּמַלְוֶ֑ה יְכַלְכֵּ֖ל דְּבָרָ֣יו בְּמִשְׁפָּֽט׃

5ח ט All goes well with those who lend generously,יwho conduct affairs with equity.

ו׳כִּֽי־לְעוֹלָ֥ם לֹֽא־יִמּ֑וֹט לְזֵ֥כֶר ע֝וֹלָ֗ם יִהְיֶ֥ה צַדִּֽיק׃

6כ They shall never be shaken;לthe beneficent will be remembered forever.

ז׳מִשְּׁמוּעָ֣ה רָ֭עָה לֹ֣א יִירָ֑א נָכ֥וֹן לִ֝בּ֗וֹ בָּטֻ֥חַ בַּיהֹוָֽה׃

7מ They are not afraid of evil tidings;נtheir heart is firm, they trust in GOD.

ח׳סָמ֣וּךְ לִ֭בּוֹ לֹ֣א יִירָ֑א עַ֖ד אֲשֶׁר־יִרְאֶ֣ה בְצָרָֽיו׃

8ס Their heart is resolute, they are unafraid;עin the end they will see the fall of their foes.

ט׳פִּזַּ֤ר ׀ נָ֘תַ֤ן לָאֶבְיוֹנִ֗ים צִ֭דְקָתוֹ עֹמֶ֣דֶת לָעַ֑ד קַ֝רְנ֗וֹ תָּר֥וּם בְּכָבֽוֹד׃

9פ They give freely to the poor;צtheir beneficence lasts forever; קtheir horn is exalted in honor.

י׳רָ֘שָׁ֤ע יִרְאֶ֨ה ׀ וְכָעָ֗ס שִׁנָּ֣יו יַחֲרֹ֣ק וְנָמָ֑ס תַּאֲוַ֖ת רְשָׁעִ֣ים תֹּאבֵֽד׃ {פ}

10ר The wicked shall see it and be vexed;שthey shall gnash their teeth; their courage shall fail.תThe desire of the wicked shall come to nothing.
