א׳שִׁ֥יר מִזְמ֗וֹר לִבְנֵ֫י־קֹ֥רַח לַמְנַצֵּ֣חַ עַל־מָחֲלַ֣ת לְעַנּ֑וֹת מַ֝שְׂכִּ֗יל לְהֵימָ֥ן הָאֶזְרָחִֽי׃

ב׳יְ֭הֹוָה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יְשׁוּעָתִ֑י יוֹם־צָעַ֖קְתִּי בַלַּ֣יְלָה נֶגְדֶּֽךָ׃
2O ETERNAL One, God of my deliverance,when I cry out in the nightbwhen I cry out in the night Or “by day I cry out [and] by night.” before You,
ג׳תָּב֣וֹא לְ֭פָנֶיךָ תְּפִלָּתִ֑י הַטֵּ֥ה אׇ֝זְנְךָ֗ לְרִנָּתִֽי׃
3let my prayer reach You;incline Your ear to my cry.
ד׳כִּֽי־שָׂבְעָ֣ה בְרָע֣וֹת נַפְשִׁ֑י וְ֝חַיַּ֗י לִשְׁא֥וֹל הִגִּֽיעוּ׃
4For I am sated with misfortune;I am at the brink of Sheol.
ה׳נֶ֭חְשַׁבְתִּי עִם־י֣וֹרְדֵי ב֑וֹר הָ֝יִ֗יתִי כְּגֶ֣בֶר אֵֽין־אֱיָֽל׃
5I am numbered with those who go down to the Pit;I am like someone helplessclike someone helpless Or “like a virile man who is helpless.”
ו׳בַּמֵּתִ֗ים חׇ֫פְשִׁ֥י כְּמ֤וֹ חֲלָלִ֨ים ׀ שֹׁ֥כְבֵי קֶ֗בֶר אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹ֣א זְכַרְתָּ֣ם ע֑וֹד וְ֝הֵ֗מָּה מִיָּדְךָ֥ נִגְזָֽרוּ׃
6abandoneddabandoned Lit. “released.” among the dead,like bodies lying in the graveof whom You are mindful no more,and who are cut off from Your care.
ז׳שַׁ֭תַּנִי בְּב֣וֹר תַּחְתִּיּ֑וֹת בְּ֝מַחֲשַׁכִּ֗ים בִּמְצֹלֽוֹת׃
7You have put me at the bottom of the Pit,in the darkest places, in the depths.
ח׳עָ֭לַי סָמְכָ֣ה חֲמָתֶ֑ךָ וְכׇל־מִ֝שְׁבָּרֶ֗יךָ עִנִּ֥יתָ סֶּֽלָה׃
8Your fury lies heavy upon me;You afflict me with all Your breakers. Selah.
ט׳הִרְחַ֥קְתָּ מְיֻדָּעַ֗י מִ֫מֶּ֥נִּי שַׁתַּ֣נִי תוֹעֵב֣וֹת לָ֑מוֹ כָּ֝לֻ֗א וְלֹ֣א אֵצֵֽא׃
9You make my companions shun me;You make me abhorrent to them;I am shut in and do not go out.
י׳עֵינִ֥י דָאֲבָ֗ה מִנִּ֫י־עֹ֥נִי קְרָאתִ֣יךָ יְהֹוָ֣ה בְּכׇל־י֑וֹם שִׁטַּ֖חְתִּי אֵלֶ֣יךָ כַפָּֽי׃
10My eyes pine away from affliction;I call to You, O ETERNAL One, each day;I stretch out my hands to You.
י״אהֲלַמֵּתִ֥ים תַּעֲשֶׂה־פֶּ֑לֶא אִם־רְ֝פָאִ֗ים יָק֤וּמוּ ׀ יוֹד֬וּךָ סֶּֽלָה׃
11Do You work wonders for the dead?Do the shades rise to praise You? Selah.
י״בהַיְסֻפַּ֣ר בַּקֶּ֣בֶר חַסְדֶּ֑ךָ אֱ֝מ֥וּנָתְךָ֗ בָּאֲבַדּֽוֹן׃
12Is Your faithful care recounted in the grave,Your constancy in the place of perdition?
י״גהֲיִוָּדַ֣ע בַּחֹ֣שֶׁךְ פִּלְאֶ֑ךָ וְ֝צִדְקָתְךָ֗ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ נְשִׁיָּֽה׃
13Are Your wonders made known in the netherworld,enetherworld Lit. “darkness.” Your beneficent deeds in the land of oblivion?
י״דוַאֲנִ֤י ׀ אֵלֶ֣יךָ יְהֹוָ֣ה שִׁוַּ֑עְתִּי וּ֝בַבֹּ֗קֶר תְּֽפִלָּתִ֥י תְקַדְּמֶֽךָּ׃
14As for me, I cry out to You, O ETERNAL One;each morning my prayer greets You.
ט״ולָמָ֣ה יְ֭הֹוָה תִּזְנַ֣ח נַפְשִׁ֑י תַּסְתִּ֖יר פָּנֶ֣יךָ מִמֶּֽנִּי׃
15Why, O ETERNAL One, do You reject me,do You hide Your face from me?
ט״זעָ֘נִ֤י אֲנִ֣י וְגֹוֵ֣עַ מִנֹּ֑עַר נָשָׂ֖אתִי אֵמֶ֣יךָ אָפֽוּנָה׃
16From my youth I have been afflictedand near death;I suffer Your terrors wherever I turn.fwherever I turn Following Saadia; meaning of Heb. uncertain.
י״זעָ֭לַי עָבְר֣וּ חֲרוֹנֶ֑יךָ בִּ֝עוּתֶ֗יךָ צִמְּתוּתֻֽנִי׃
17Your fury overwhelms me;Your terrors destroy me.
י״חסַבּ֣וּנִי כַ֭מַּיִם כׇּל־הַיּ֑וֹם הִקִּ֖יפוּ עָלַ֣י יָֽחַד׃
18They swirl about me like water all day long;they encircle me on every side.
י״טהִרְחַ֣קְתָּ מִ֭מֶּנִּי אֹהֵ֣ב וָרֵ֑עַ מְֽיֻדָּעַ֥י מַחְשָֽׁךְ׃ {פ}
19You have put friend and neighbor far from meand my companions out of my sight.gout of my sight Lit. “into darkness.”

א׳מַ֝שְׂכִּ֗יל לְאֵיתָ֥ן הָאֶזְרָחִֽי׃
1A maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite.
ב׳חַֽסְדֵ֣י יְ֭הֹוָה עוֹלָ֣ם אָשִׁ֑ירָה לְדֹ֥ר וָדֹ֓ר ׀ אוֹדִ֖יעַ אֱמוּנָתְךָ֣ בְּפִֽי׃
2I will sing of GOD’s steadfast love forever;to all generations I will proclaim Your faithfulness with my mouth.
ג׳כִּֽי־אָמַ֗רְתִּי ע֭וֹלָם חֶ֣סֶד יִבָּנֶ֑ה שָׁמַ֓יִם ׀ תָּכִ֖ן אֱמוּנָתְךָ֣ בָהֶֽם׃
3I declare, “Your steadfast love is confirmed forever;there in the heavens You establish Your faithfulness.”
ד׳כָּרַ֣תִּי בְ֭רִית לִבְחִירִ֑י נִ֝שְׁבַּ֗עְתִּי לְדָוִ֥ד עַבְדִּֽי׃
4“I have made a covenant with My chosen one;I have sworn to My servant David:
ה׳עַד־ע֭וֹלָם אָכִ֣ין זַרְעֶ֑ךָ וּבָנִ֨יתִי לְדֹר־וָד֖וֹר כִּסְאֲךָ֣ סֶֽלָה׃
5I will establish your offspring forever,I will confirm your throne for all generations.” Selah.
ו׳וְי֘וֹד֤וּ שָׁמַ֣יִם פִּלְאֲךָ֣ יְהֹוָ֑ה אַף־אֱ֝מ֥וּנָתְךָ֗ בִּקְהַ֥ל קְדֹשִֽׁים׃
6Your wonders, O ETERNAL One, are praised by the heavens,Your faithfulness, too, in the assembly of holy beings.
ז׳כִּ֤י מִ֣י בַ֭שַּׁחַק יַעֲרֹ֣ךְ לַיהֹוָ֑ה יִדְמֶ֥ה לַ֝יהֹוָ֗ה בִּבְנֵ֥י אֵלִֽים׃
7For who in the skies can equal GOD,can compare with GOD among the divine beings,
ח׳אֵ֣ל נַ֭עֲרָץ בְּסוֹד־קְדֹשִׁ֣ים רַבָּ֑ה וְ֝נוֹרָ֗א עַל־כׇּל־סְבִיבָֽיו׃
8a God greatly dreaded in the council of holy beings,held in awe by those all around?
ט׳יְהֹוָ֤ה ׀ אֱלֹ֘הֵ֤י צְבָא֗וֹת מִי־כָמ֖וֹךָֽ חֲסִ֥ין ׀ יָ֑הּ וֶ֝אֱמ֥וּנָתְךָ֗ סְבִיבוֹתֶֽיךָ׃
9O ETERNAL One, God of hosts,who is mighty like You, O Yah?aYah See note at 68.5. Your faithfulness surrounds You;
י׳אַתָּ֣ה מ֭וֹשֵׁל בְּגֵא֣וּת הַיָּ֑ם בְּשׂ֥וֹא גַ֝לָּ֗יו אַתָּ֥ה תְשַׁבְּחֵֽם׃
10You rule the swelling of the sea;when its waves surge, You still them.
י״אאַתָּ֤ה דִכִּ֣אתָ כֶחָלָ֣ל רָ֑הַב בִּזְר֥וֹעַ עֻ֝זְּךָ֗ פִּזַּ֥רְתָּ אוֹיְבֶֽיךָ׃
11You crushed Rahab; he was like a corpse;with Your powerful arm You scattered Your enemies.
י״בלְךָ֣ שָׁ֭מַיִם אַף־לְךָ֥ אָ֑רֶץ תֵּבֵ֥ל וּ֝מְלֹאָ֗הּ אַתָּ֥ה יְסַדְתָּֽם׃
12The heaven is Yours,the earth too;the world and all it holds—You established them.
י״גצָפ֣וֹן וְ֭יָמִין אַתָּ֣ה בְרָאתָ֑ם תָּב֥וֹר וְ֝חֶרְמ֗וֹן בְּשִׁמְךָ֥ יְרַנֵּֽנוּ׃
13North and south—You created them;Tabor and Hermon sing forth Your name.
י״דלְךָ֣ זְ֭רוֹעַ עִם־גְּבוּרָ֑ה תָּעֹ֥ז יָ֝דְךָ֗ תָּר֥וּם יְמִינֶֽךָ׃
14Yours is an arm endowed with might;Your hand is strong;Your right hand, exalted.
ט״וצֶ֣דֶק וּ֭מִשְׁפָּט מְכ֣וֹן כִּסְאֶ֑ךָ חֶ֥סֶד וֶ֝אֱמֶ֗ת יְֽקַדְּמ֥וּ פָנֶֽיךָ׃
15Righteousness and justice are the base of Your throne;steadfast love and faithfulness stand before You.
ט״זאַשְׁרֵ֣י הָ֭עָם יֹדְעֵ֣י תְרוּעָ֑ה יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה בְּֽאוֹר־פָּנֶ֥יךָ יְהַלֵּכֽוּן׃
16Happy is the people who know the joyful shout;O ETERNAL One, they walk in the light of Your presence.
י״זבְּ֭שִׁמְךָ יְגִיל֣וּן כׇּל־הַיּ֑וֹם וּבְצִדְקָתְךָ֥ יָרֽוּמוּ׃
17They rejoice in Your name all day long;they are exalted through Your righteousness.
י״חכִּי־תִפְאֶ֣רֶת עֻזָּ֣מוֹ אָ֑תָּה וּ֝בִרְצוֹנְךָ֗ (תרים) [תָּר֥וּם] קַרְנֵֽינוּ׃
18For You are their strength in which they glory;our horn is exalted through Your favor.
י״טכִּ֣י לַ֭יהֹוָה מָגִנֵּ֑נוּ וְלִקְד֖וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל מַלְכֵּֽנוּ׃
19Truly our shield is of GOD,our monarch, of the Holy One of Israel.
כ׳אָ֤ז דִּבַּ֥רְתָּֽ־בְחָז֡וֹן לַחֲסִידֶ֗יךָ וַתֹּ֗אמֶר שִׁוִּ֣יתִי עֵ֭זֶר עַל־גִּבּ֑וֹר הֲרִימ֖וֹתִי בָח֣וּר מֵעָֽם׃
20ThenbThen Referring to vv. 4–5; cf. 2 Sam. 7.1–17. You spoke to Your faithful ones in a visionand said, “I have conferred power upon a warrior;I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
כ״אמָ֭צָאתִי דָּוִ֣ד עַבְדִּ֑י בְּשֶׁ֖מֶן קׇדְשִׁ֣י מְשַׁחְתִּֽיו׃
21I have found David, My servant;anointed him with My sacred oil.
כ״באֲשֶׁ֣ר יָ֭דִי תִּכּ֣וֹן עִמּ֑וֹ אַף־זְרוֹעִ֥י תְאַמְּצֶֽנּוּ׃
22My hand shall be constantly with him,and My arm shall strengthen him.
כ״גלֹא־יַשִּׁ֣יא אוֹיֵ֣ב בּ֑וֹ וּבֶן־עַ֝וְלָ֗ה לֹ֣א יְעַנֶּֽנּוּ׃
23No enemy shall oppress him,coppress him Meaning of Heb. uncertain. no one vile afflict him.
כ״דוְכַתּוֹתִ֣י מִפָּנָ֣יו צָרָ֑יו וּמְשַׂנְאָ֥יו אֶגּֽוֹף׃
24I will crush his adversaries before him;I will strike down those who hate him.
כ״הוֶ֥אֱֽמוּנָתִ֣י וְחַסְדִּ֣י עִמּ֑וֹ וּ֝בִשְׁמִ֗י תָּר֥וּם קַרְנֽוֹ׃
25My faithfulness and steadfast love shall be with him;his horn shall be exalted through My name.
כ״ווְשַׂמְתִּ֣י בַיָּ֣ם יָד֑וֹ וּֽבַנְּהָר֥וֹת יְמִינֽוֹ׃
26I will set his hand upon the sea,his right hand upon the rivers.
כ״זה֣וּא יִ֭קְרָאֵנִי אָ֣בִי אָ֑תָּה אֵ֝לִ֗י וְצ֣וּר יְשׁוּעָתִֽי׃
27He shall say to Me,‘You are my father,dfather I.e., with the authority to declare which offspring (= nation’s king) is the favored one. my God, the rock of my deliverance.’
כ״חאַף־אָ֭נִי בְּכ֣וֹר אֶתְּנֵ֑הוּ עֶ֝לְי֗וֹן לְמַלְכֵי־אָֽרֶץ׃
28I will appoint him first-born,highest of the kings of the earth.
כ״טלְ֭עוֹלָם (אשמור) [אֶשְׁמׇר־]ל֣וֹ חַסְדִּ֑י וּ֝בְרִיתִ֗י נֶאֱמֶ֥נֶת לֽוֹ׃
29I will maintain My steadfast love for him always;My covenant with him shall endure.
ל׳וְשַׂמְתִּ֣י לָעַ֣ד זַרְע֑וֹ וְ֝כִסְא֗וֹ כִּימֵ֥י שָׁמָֽיִם׃
30I will establish his line forever,his throne, as long as the heavens last.
ל״אאִם־יַעַזְב֣וּ בָ֭נָיו תּוֹרָתִ֑י וּ֝בְמִשְׁפָּטַ֗י לֹ֣א יֵלֵכֽוּן׃
31If his sons forsake My Teachingand do not live by My rules;
ל״באִם־חֻקֹּתַ֥י יְחַלֵּ֑לוּ וּ֝מִצְוֺתַ֗י לֹ֣א יִשְׁמֹֽרוּ׃
32if they violate My laws,and do not observe My commands,
ל״גוּפָקַדְתִּ֣י בְשֵׁ֣בֶט פִּשְׁעָ֑ם וּבִנְגָעִ֥ים עֲוֺנָֽם׃
33I will punish their transgression with the rod,their iniquity with plagues.
ל״דוְ֭חַסְדִּי לֹא־אָפִ֣יר מֵעִמּ֑וֹ וְלֹֽא־אֲ֝שַׁקֵּ֗ר בֶּאֱמוּנָתִֽי׃
34But I will not take away My steadfast love from him;I will not betray My faithfulness.
ל״הלֹֽא־אֲחַלֵּ֥ל בְּרִיתִ֑י וּמוֹצָ֥א שְׂ֝פָתַ֗י לֹ֣א אֲשַׁנֶּֽה׃
35I will not violate My covenant,or change what I have uttered.
ל״ואַ֭חַת נִשְׁבַּ֣עְתִּי בְקׇדְשִׁ֑י אִֽם־לְדָוִ֥ד אֲכַזֵּֽב׃
36I have sworn by My holiness, once and for all;I will not be false to David.
ל״זזַ֭רְעוֹ לְעוֹלָ֣ם יִהְיֶ֑ה וְכִסְא֖וֹ כַשֶּׁ֣מֶשׁ נֶגְדִּֽי׃
37His line shall continue forever,his throne, as the sun before Me,
ל״חכְּ֭יָרֵחַ יִכּ֣וֹן עוֹלָ֑ם וְעֵ֥ד בַּ֝שַּׁ֗חַק נֶאֱמָ֥ן סֶֽלָה׃
38as the moon, established forever,an enduring witness in the sky.” Selah.
ל״טוְאַתָּ֣ה זָ֭נַחְתָּ וַתִּמְאָ֑ס הִ֝תְעַבַּ֗רְתָּ עִם־מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ׃
39Yet You have rejected, spurned,and become enraged at Your anointed.
מ׳נֵ֭אַרְתָּה בְּרִ֣ית עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ חִלַּ֖לְתָּ לָאָ֣רֶץ נִזְרֽוֹ׃
40You have repudiated the covenant with Your servant;You have dragged his dignity in the dust.
מ״אפָּרַ֥צְתָּ כׇל־גְּדֵרֹתָ֑יו שַׂ֖מְתָּ מִבְצָרָ֣יו מְחִתָּֽה׃
41You have breached all his defenses,shattered his strongholds.
מ״בשַׁ֭סֻּהוּ כׇּל־עֹ֣בְרֵי דָ֑רֶךְ הָיָ֥ה חֶ֝רְפָּ֗ה לִשְׁכֵנָֽיו׃
42All who pass by plunder him;he has become the butt of his neighbors.
מ״גהֲ֭רִימוֹתָ יְמִ֣ין צָרָ֑יו הִ֝שְׂמַ֗חְתָּ כׇּל־אוֹיְבָֽיו׃
43You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries,and made all his enemies rejoice.
מ״דאַף־תָּ֭שִׁיב צ֣וּר חַרְבּ֑וֹ וְלֹ֥א הֲ֝קֵימֹת֗וֹ בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃
44You have turned back the blade of his sword,and have not sustained him in battle.
מ״ההִשְׁבַּ֥תָּ מִטְּהָר֑וֹ וְ֝כִסְא֗וֹ לָאָ֥רֶץ מִגַּֽרְתָּה׃
45You have brought his splendorehis splendor Meaning of Heb. uncertain. to an endand have hurled his throne to the ground.
מ״והִ֭קְצַרְתָּ יְמֵ֣י עֲלוּמָ֑יו הֶ֥עֱטִ֨יתָ עָלָ֖יו בּוּשָׁ֣ה סֶֽלָה׃
46You have cut short the days of his youth;You have covered him with shame. Selah.
מ״זעַד־מָ֣ה יְ֭הֹוָה תִּסָּתֵ֣ר לָנֶ֑צַח תִּבְעַ֖ר כְּמוֹ־אֵ֣שׁ חֲמָתֶֽךָ׃
47How long, O ETERNAL One; will You forever hide Your face,will Your fury blaze like fire?
מ״חזְכׇר־אֲנִ֥י מֶה־חָ֑לֶד עַל־מַה־שָּׁ֝֗וְא בָּרָ֥אתָ כׇל־בְּנֵֽי־אָדָֽם׃
48O remember how short my life is;fhow short my life is Meaning of Heb. uncertain. why should You have created every person in vain?
מ״טמִ֤י גֶ֣בֶר יִֽ֭חְיֶה וְלֹ֣א יִרְאֶה־מָּ֑וֶת יְמַלֵּ֨ט נַפְשׁ֖וֹ מִיַּד־שְׁא֣וֹל סֶֽלָה׃
49WhogWho Or “What virile man.” can live and not see death,can escape the clutches of Sheol? Selah.
נ׳אַיֵּ֤ה ׀ חֲסָדֶ֖יךָ הָרִאשֹׁנִ֥ים ׀ אֲדֹנָ֑י נִשְׁבַּ֥עְתָּ לְ֝דָוִ֗ד בֶּאֱמוּנָתֶֽךָ׃
50O my Sovereign, where is Your steadfast love of oldthat You swore to David in Your faithfulness?
נ״אזְכֹ֣ר אֲ֭דֹנָי חֶרְפַּ֣ת עֲבָדֶ֑יךָ שְׂאֵתִ֥י בְ֝חֵיקִ֗י כׇּל־רַבִּ֥ים עַמִּֽים׃
51Remember, O my Sovereign, the abuse flung at Your servantsthat I have borne in my bosom [from] many peoples,hthat I have borne in my bosom [from] many peoples Meaning of Heb. uncertain.
נ״באֲשֶׁ֤ר חֵרְפ֖וּ אוֹיְבֶ֥יךָ ׀ יְהֹוָ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר חֵ֝רְפ֗וּ עִקְּב֥וֹת מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ׃
52how Your enemies, O ETERNAL One, have flung abuse,abuse at Your anointed at every step.
נ״גבָּר֖וּךְ יְהֹוָ֥ה לְעוֹלָ֗ם אָ֘מֵ֥ן ׀ וְאָמֵֽן׃
53Blessed is GOD forever;Amen and Amen.
