י׳

א׳לָמָ֣ה יְ֭הֹוָה תַּעֲמֹ֣ד בְּרָח֑וֹק תַּ֝עְלִ֗ים לְעִתּ֥וֹת בַּצָּרָֽה׃

1Why, O ETERNAL One, do You stand aloof,heedless in times of trouble?

ב׳בְּגַאֲוַ֣ת רָ֭שָׁע יִדְלַ֣ק עָנִ֑י יִתָּפְשׂ֓וּ ׀ בִּמְזִמּ֖וֹת ז֣וּ חָשָֽׁבוּ׃

2The wicked in their arrogance hound the lowly—may they be caught in the schemes they devise!amay they be caught in the schemes they devise Or “they (i.e., the lowly) are caught by the schemes they devised.”

ג׳כִּֽי־הִלֵּ֣ל רָ֭שָׁע עַל־תַּאֲוַ֣ת נַפְשׁ֑וֹ וּבֹצֵ֥עַ בֵּ֝רֵ֗ךְ נִ֘אֵ֥ץ ׀ יְהֹוָֽה׃

3The wicked crow about their unbridled lusts;the grasping revile and scorn GOD.

ד׳רָשָׁ֗ע כְּגֹ֣בַהּ אַ֭פּוֹ בַּל־יִדְרֹ֑שׁ אֵ֥ין אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים כׇּל־מְזִמּוֹתָֽיו׃

4The wicked, arrogant as they are,in all their scheming [think],bThe wicked crow … their scheming [think] Meaning of Heb. uncertain. “God does not carecGod does not care Lit. “There is no God.” and does not call to account.”dClauses transposed for clarity.

ה׳יָ֘חִ֤ילוּ דְרָכָ֨ו ׀ בְּכׇל־עֵ֗ת מָר֣וֹם מִ֭שְׁפָּטֶיךָ מִנֶּגְדּ֑וֹ כׇּל־צ֝וֹרְרָ֗יו יָפִ֥יחַ בָּהֶֽם׃

5Their ways prosper at all times;Your judgments are far beyond them;they snort at all their foes.

ו׳אָמַ֣ר בְּ֭לִבּוֹ בַּל־אֶמּ֑וֹט לְדֹ֥ר וָ֝דֹ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא־בְרָֽע׃

6Such people think, “I shall not be shaken,through all time never be in trouble.”

ז׳אָלָ֤ה ׀ פִּ֣יהוּ מָ֭לֵא וּמִרְמ֣וֹת וָתֹ֑ךְ תַּ֥חַת לְ֝שׁוֹנ֗וֹ עָמָ֥ל וָאָֽוֶן׃

7Their mouth is full of oaths, deceit, and fraud;mischief and evil are under their tongue.

ח׳יֵשֵׁ֤ב ׀ בְּמַאְרַ֬ב חֲצֵרִ֗ים בַּֽ֭מִּסְתָּרִים יַהֲרֹ֣ג נָקִ֑י עֵ֝ינָ֗יו לְֽחֵלְכָ֥ה יִצְפֹּֽנוּ׃

8They lurk in outlying places;from a covert they slay the innocent;their eyes spy out the hapless.

ט׳יֶאֱרֹ֬ב בַּמִּסְתָּ֨ר ׀ כְּאַרְיֵ֬ה בְסֻכֹּ֗ה יֶ֭אֱרֹב לַחֲט֣וֹף עָנִ֑י יַחְטֹ֥ף עָ֝נִ֗י בְּמׇשְׁכ֥וֹ בְרִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃

9They wait in a covert like a lion in a lair;wait to seize the lowly;they seize the lowly as they pull their net shut;

י׳(ודכה) [יִדְכֶּ֥ה] יָשֹׁ֑חַ וְנָפַ֥ל בַּ֝עֲצוּמָ֗יו (חלכאים) [חֵ֣ל כָּאִֽים]׃

10they stoop, they crouch,and the hapless fall prey to their might.eand the hapless fall prey to their might Meaning of Heb. uncertain.

י״אאָמַ֣ר בְּ֭לִבּוֹ שָׁ֣כַֽח אֵ֑ל הִסְתִּ֥יר פָּ֝נָ֗יו בַּל־רָאָ֥ה לָנֶֽצַח׃

11They think, “God is not mindful,the divine face is hidden and never looks.”

י״בקוּמָ֤ה יְהֹוָ֗ה אֵ֭ל נְשָׂ֣א יָדֶ֑ךָ אַל־תִּשְׁכַּ֥ח (עניים) [עֲנָוִֽים]׃

12Rise, O ETERNAL One!Strike at them,fStrike at them Lit. “Lift Your hand.” O God!Do not forget the lowly.

י״געַל־מֶ֤ה ׀ נִאֵ֖ץ רָשָׁ֥ע ׀ אֱלֹהִ֑ים אָמַ֥ר בְּ֝לִבּ֗וֹ לֹ֣א תִדְרֹֽשׁ׃

13Why should the wicked scorn God,thinking You do not call to account?

י״דרָאִ֡תָה כִּי־אַתָּ֤ה ׀ עָ֘מָ֤ל וָכַ֨עַס ׀ תַּבִּיט֮ לָתֵ֢ת בְּיָ֫דֶ֥ךָ עָ֭לֶיךָ יַעֲזֹ֣ב חֵלֵ֑כָה יָ֝ת֗וֹם אַתָּ֤ה ׀ הָיִ֬יתָ עוֹזֵֽר׃

14You do look!You take note of mischief and vexation!To requite is in Your power.gTo requite is in Your power Meaning of Heb. uncertain. To You the hapless can entrust themselves;You have ever been the orphans’ help.

ט״ושְׁ֭בֹר זְר֣וֹעַ רָשָׁ֑ע וָ֝רָ֗ע תִּֽדְרוֹשׁ־רִשְׁע֥וֹ בַל־תִּמְצָֽא׃

15O break the power of the wicked and evildoers,so that when You look forhlook for A play on darash, which in vv. 4 and 13 means “to call to account.” their wickednessYou will find it no more.

ט״זיְהֹוָ֣ה מֶ֭לֶךְ עוֹלָ֣ם וָעֶ֑ד אָבְד֥וּ ג֝וֹיִ֗ם מֵאַרְצֽוֹ׃

16GOD is sovereign for ever and ever;the nations will perish from thisithis Heb. “His.” land.

י״זתַּאֲוַ֬ת עֲנָוִ֣ים שָׁמַ֣עְתָּ יְהֹוָ֑ה תָּכִ֥ין לִ֝בָּ֗ם תַּקְשִׁ֥יב אׇזְנֶֽךָ׃

17You will listen to the entreaty of the lowly, O ETERNAL One,You will make their hearts firm;You will incline Your ear

י״חלִשְׁפֹּ֥ט יָת֗וֹם וָ֫דָ֥ךְ בַּל־יוֹסִ֥יף ע֑וֹד לַעֲרֹ֥ץ אֱ֝נ֗וֹשׁ מִן־הָאָֽרֶץ׃ {פ}

18to champion the orphan and the downtrodden,that mere earthly mortals tyrannize no more.jthat mere earthly mortals tyrannize no more Meaning of Heb. uncertain.

י״א

א׳לַמְנַצֵּ֗חַ לְדָ֫וִ֥ד בַּֽיהֹוָ֨ה ׀ חָסִ֗יתִי אֵ֭יךְ תֹּאמְר֣וּ לְנַפְשִׁ֑י (נודו) [נ֝֗וּדִי] הַרְכֶ֥ם צִפּֽוֹר׃

1For the leader. Of David.In GOD I take refuge;how can you say to me,“Take to the hills like a bird!athe hills like a bird Meaning of Heb. uncertain; lit. “your hill, bird!”

ב׳כִּ֤י הִנֵּ֪ה הָרְשָׁעִ֡ים יִדְרְכ֬וּן קֶ֗שֶׁת כּוֹנְנ֣וּ חִצָּ֣ם עַל־יֶ֑תֶר לִיר֥וֹת בְּמוֹ־אֹ֝֗פֶל לְיִשְׁרֵי־לֵֽב׃

2For see, the wicked bend the bow,they set their arrow on the stringto shoot from the shadows at the upright.

ג׳כִּ֣י הַ֭שָּׁתוֹת יֵהָרֵס֑וּן צַ֝דִּ֗יק מַה־פָּעָֽל׃

3When the foundations are destroyed,what can the righteous do?”bWhen the foundations are destroyed, / what can the righteous do? Or “For the foundations are destroyed; what has the Righteous One done?” Or “If the foundations are destroyed, what have the righteous accomplished?”

ד׳יְהֹוָ֤ה ׀ בְּֽהֵ֘יכַ֤ל קׇדְשׁ֗וֹ יְהֹוָה֮ בַּשָּׁמַ֢יִם כִּ֫סְא֥וֹ עֵינָ֥יו יֶחֱז֑וּ עַפְעַפָּ֥יו יִ֝בְחֲנ֗וּ בְּנֵ֣י אָדָֽם׃

4GOD is in the divine holy palace; GOD—whose throne is in heaven,whose eyes behold, whose gaze searches humankind.

ה׳יְהֹוָה֮ צַדִּ֢יק יִ֫בְחָ֥ן וְ֭רָשָׁע וְאֹהֵ֣ב חָמָ֑ס שָֽׂנְאָ֥ה נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃

5GOD seeks out someone righteous,but loathes the wicked one who loves injustice.

ו׳יַמְטֵ֥ר עַל־רְשָׁעִ֗ים פַּ֫חִ֥ים אֵ֣שׁ וְ֭גׇפְרִית וְר֥וּחַ זִלְעָפ֗וֹת מְנָ֣ת כּוֹסָֽם׃

6[God] will rain down upon the wicked blazing coals and sulfur;a scorching wind shall be their lot.ctheir lot Lit. “the portion of their cup.”

ז׳כִּֽי־צַדִּ֣יק יְ֭הֹוָה צְדָק֣וֹת אָהֵ֑ב יָ֝שָׁ֗ר יֶחֱז֥וּ פָנֵֽימוֹ׃ {פ}

7For GOD is righteous,and loves righteous deeds;the upright shall behold God’s face.

י״ב

א׳לַמְנַצֵּ֥חַ עַֽל־הַשְּׁמִינִ֗ית מִזְמ֥וֹר לְדָוִֽד׃

1For the leader; on the sheminith. A psalm of David.

ב׳הוֹשִׁ֣יעָה יְ֭הֹוָה כִּֽי־גָמַ֣ר חָסִ֑יד כִּי־פַ֥סּוּ אֱ֝מוּנִ֗ים מִבְּנֵ֥י אָדָֽם׃

2Help, O ETERNAL One!For the faithful are no more;the loyal have vanished from among mortals.

ג׳שָׁ֤וְא ׀ יְֽדַבְּרוּ֮ אִ֤ישׁ אֶת־רֵ֫עֵ֥הוּ שְׂפַ֥ת חֲלָק֑וֹת בְּלֵ֖ב וָלֵ֣ב יְדַבֵּֽרוּ׃

3People speak lies to one another;their speech is smooth;they talk with duplicity.

ד׳יַכְרֵ֣ת יְ֭הֹוָה כׇּל־שִׂפְתֵ֣י חֲלָק֑וֹת לָ֝שׁ֗וֹן מְדַבֶּ֥רֶת גְּדֹלֽוֹת׃

4May GOD cut off all flattering lips,every tongue that speaks arrogance.

ה׳אֲשֶׁ֤ר אָמְר֨וּ ׀ לִלְשֹׁנֵ֣נוּ נַ֭גְבִּיר שְׂפָתֵ֣ינוּ אִתָּ֑נוּ מִ֖י אָד֣וֹן לָֽנוּ׃

5They say, “By our tongues we shall prevail;with lips such as ours, who can be our master?”

ו׳מִשֹּׁ֥ד עֲנִיִּים֮ מֵאֶנְקַ֢ת אֶבְי֫וֹנִ֥ים עַתָּ֣ה אָ֭קוּם יֹאמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֑ה אָשִׁ֥ית בְּ֝יֵ֗שַׁע יָפִ֥יחַֽ־לֽוֹ׃

6“Because of the groans of the plundered poor and needy,I will now act,” says GOD.“I will give help,” [God] affirms to them.a“I will give help,” [God] affirms to them Meaning of Heb. uncertain.

ז׳אִ֥מְר֣וֹת יְהֹוָה֮ אֲמָר֢וֹת טְהֹ֫ר֥וֹת כֶּ֣סֶף צָ֭רוּף בַּעֲלִ֣יל לָאָ֑רֶץ מְ֝זֻקָּ֗ק שִׁבְעָתָֽיִם׃

7GOD’s words are pure words,silver purged in an earthen crucible,refined sevenfold.

ח׳אַתָּֽה־יְהֹוָ֥ה תִּשְׁמְרֵ֑ם תִּצְּרֶ֓נּוּ ׀ מִן־הַדּ֖וֹר ז֣וּ לְעוֹלָֽם׃

8You, O ETERNAL One, will keep them,guarding each from this agebfrom this age Meaning of Heb. uncertain. evermore.

ט׳סָבִ֗יב רְשָׁעִ֥ים יִתְהַלָּכ֑וּן כְּרֻ֥ם זֻ֝לּ֗וּת לִבְנֵ֥י אָדָֽם׃ {פ}

9On every side the wicked roamwhen baseness is exalted among mortals.cwhen baseness is exalted among mortals Meaning of Heb. uncertain.

י״ג

א׳לַמְנַצֵּ֗חַ מִזְמ֥וֹר לְדָוִֽד׃

1For the leader. A psalm of David.

ב׳עַד־אָ֣נָה יְ֭הֹוָה תִּשְׁכָּחֵ֣נִי נֶ֑צַח עַד־אָ֓נָה ׀ תַּסְתִּ֖יר אֶת־פָּנֶ֣יךָ מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

2How long, O ETERNAL One; will You ignore me forever?How long will You hide Your face from me?

ג׳עַד־אָ֨נָה אָשִׁ֪ית עֵצ֡וֹת בְּנַפְשִׁ֗י יָג֣וֹן בִּלְבָבִ֣י יוֹמָ֑ם עַד־אָ֓נָה ׀ יָר֖וּם אֹיְבִ֣י עָלָֽי׃

3How long will I have cares on my mind,grief in my heart all day?How long will my enemy have the upper hand?

ד׳הַבִּ֣יטָֽה עֲ֭נֵנִי יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֑י הָאִ֥ירָה עֵ֝ינַ֗י פֶּן־אִישַׁ֥ן הַמָּֽוֶת׃

4Look at me, answer me, O my ETERNAL God!Restore the luster to my eyes,lest I sleep the sleep of death;

ה׳פֶּן־יֹאמַ֣ר אֹיְבִ֣י יְכׇלְתִּ֑יו צָרַ֥י יָ֝גִ֗ילוּ כִּ֣י אֶמּֽוֹט׃

5lest my enemy say, “I have overcome him,”my foes exult when I totter.

ו׳וַאֲנִ֤י ׀ בְּחַסְדְּךָ֣ בָטַחְתִּי֮ יָ֤גֵ֥ל לִבִּ֗י בִּישׁוּעָ֫תֶ֥ךָ אָשִׁ֥ירָה לַֽיהֹוָ֑ה כִּ֖י גָמַ֣ל עָלָֽי׃ {פ}

6But I trust in Your faithfulness,my heart will exult in Your deliverance.I will sing to GOD,who has been good to me.

י״ד

א׳לַמְנַצֵּ֗חַ לְדָ֫וִ֥ד אָ֘מַ֤ר נָבָ֣ל בְּ֭לִבּוֹ אֵ֣ין אֱלֹהִ֑ים הִֽשְׁחִ֗יתוּ הִֽתְעִ֥יבוּ עֲלִילָ֗ה אֵ֣ין עֹֽשֵׂה־טֽוֹב׃

1aCf. Psalm 53. For the leader. Of David.The scoundrel thinks,“God does not care.”bGod does not care Lit. “There is no God”; cf. 10.4. HumancHuman Heb. “Their.” deeds are corrupt and loathsome;no one does good.

ב׳יְֽהֹוָ֗ה מִשָּׁמַיִם֮ הִשְׁקִ֢יף עַֽל־בְּנֵי־אָ֫דָ֥ם לִ֭רְאוֹת הֲיֵ֣שׁ מַשְׂכִּ֑יל דֹּ֝רֵ֗שׁ אֶת־אֱלֹהִֽים׃

2GOD looks down from heaven on humankindto find someone with understanding,someone mindful of God.

ג׳הַכֹּ֥ל סָר֮ יַחְדָּ֢ו נֶ֫אֱלָ֥חוּ אֵ֤ין עֹֽשֵׂה־ט֑וֹב אֵ֝֗ין גַּם־אֶחָֽד׃

3All have turned bad,altogether foul;there is no one who does good,not even one.

ד׳הֲלֹ֥א יָדְעוּ֮ כׇּל־פֹּ֢עֲלֵ֫י אָ֥וֶן אֹכְלֵ֣י עַ֭מִּי אָ֣כְלוּ לֶ֑חֶם יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה לֹ֣א קָרָֽאוּ׃

4Are they so witless, all those evildoers,who devour my people as they devour food,and do not invoke GOD?

ה׳שָׁ֤ם ׀ פָּ֣חֲדוּ פָ֑חַד כִּֽי־אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים בְּד֣וֹר צַדִּֽיק׃

5There they will be seized with fright,for God is present in the circle of the righteous.

ו׳עֲצַת־עָנִ֥י תָבִ֑ישׁוּ כִּ֖י יְהֹוָ֣ה מַחְסֵֽהוּ׃

6You may set at naught the counsel of the lowly,but GOD is their refuge.

ז׳מִ֥י־יִתֵּ֣ן מִצִּיּוֹן֮ יְשׁוּעַ֢ת יִשְׂרָ֫אֵ֥ל בְּשׁ֣וּב יְ֭הֹוָה שְׁב֣וּת עַמּ֑וֹ יָגֵ֥ל יַ֝עֲקֹ֗ב יִשְׂמַ֥ח יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ {פ}

7O that the deliverance of Israel might come from Zion!When GOD restores the fortunes of this covenanted people,Jacob will exult, Israel will rejoice.

ט״ו

א׳מִזְמ֗וֹר לְדָ֫וִ֥ד יְ֭הֹוָה מִי־יָג֣וּר בְּאׇהֳלֶ֑ךָ מִֽי־יִ֝שְׁכֹּ֗ן בְּהַ֣ר קׇדְשֶֽׁךָ׃

1A psalm of David. GOD, who may sojourn in Your tent,who may dwell on Your holy mountain?

ב׳הוֹלֵ֣ךְ תָּ֭מִים וּפֹעֵ֥ל צֶ֑דֶק וְדֹבֵ֥ר אֱ֝מֶ֗ת בִּלְבָבֽוֹ׃

2Anyone who lives without blame,who does what is right,and in their heart acknowledges the truth;

ג׳לֹֽא־רָגַ֨ל ׀ עַל־לְשֹׁנ֗וֹ לֹא־עָשָׂ֣ה לְרֵעֵ֣הוּ רָעָ֑ה וְ֝חֶרְפָּ֗ה לֹא־נָשָׂ֥א עַל־קְרֹבֽוֹ׃

3whose tongue is not given to evil;awhose tongue is not given to evil Meaning of Heb. uncertain; or “who has no slander upon the tongue.” who has never done harm to a compatriot,or borne reproach for [acts toward] a neighbor;

ד׳נִבְזֶ֤ה ׀ בְּֽעֵ֘ינָ֤יו נִמְאָ֗ס וְאֶת־יִרְאֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֣ה יְכַבֵּ֑ד נִשְׁבַּ֥ע לְ֝הָרַ֗ע וְלֹ֣א יָמִֽר׃

4for whom someone contemptible is abhorrent,but who honors those who fear GOD;who keeps an oath even when it hurts;

ה׳כַּסְפּ֤וֹ ׀ לֹא־נָתַ֣ן בְּנֶשֶׁךְ֮ וְשֹׁ֥חַד עַל־נָקִ֗י לֹ֥א־לָ֫קָ֥ח עֹֽשֵׂה־אֵ֑לֶּה לֹ֖א יִמּ֣וֹט לְעוֹלָֽם׃ {פ}

5who has never lent money at interest,or accepted a bribe against the innocent.One who acts thus shall never be shaken.

ט״ז

א׳מִכְתָּ֥ם לְדָוִ֑ד שׇֽׁמְרֵ֥נִי אֵ֝֗ל כִּֽי־חָסִ֥יתִי בָֽךְ׃

1A michtamamichtam Meaning of Heb. uncertain. of David.Protect me, O God, for I seek refuge in You.

ב׳אָמַ֣רְתְּ לַֽ֭יהֹוָה אֲדֹנָ֣י אָ֑תָּה ט֝וֹבָתִ֗י בַּל־עָלֶֽיךָ׃

2I say to GOD,“You are my Sovereign, my benefactor;there is none above You.”bmy benefactor; / there is none above You In contrast to others “I have no good but in You.”

ג׳לִ֭קְדוֹשִׁים אֲשֶׁר־בָּאָ֣רֶץ הֵ֑מָּה וְ֝אַדִּירֵ֗י כׇּל־חֶפְצִי־בָֽם׃

3As to the holy and mighty ones that are in the land,my whole desire concerning them is that

ד׳יִרְבּ֥וּ עַצְּבוֹתָם֮ אַחֵ֢ר מָ֫הָ֥רוּ בַּל־אַסִּ֣יךְ נִסְכֵּיהֶ֣ם מִדָּ֑ם וּֽבַל־אֶשָּׂ֥א אֶת־שְׁ֝מוֹתָ֗ם עַל־שְׂפָתָֽי׃

4those who espouse another [god]may have many sorrows!cAs to the holy and mighty ones … sorrows Meaning of Heb. uncertain; “holy and mighty ones” taken as epithets for divine beings; cf. qedoshim in Ps. 89.6, 8, and ʼaddirim in 1 Sam. 4.8. I will have no part of their bloody libations;their names will not pass my lips.

ה׳יְֽהֹוָ֗ה מְנָת־חֶלְקִ֥י וְכוֹסִ֑י אַ֝תָּ֗ה תּוֹמִ֥יךְ גּוֹרָלִֽי׃

5GOD is my allotted share and portion;dportion Lit. “cup.” You control my fate.

ו׳חֲבָלִ֣ים נָֽפְלוּ־לִ֭י בַּנְּעִמִ֑ים אַף־נַ֝חֲלָ֗ת שָֽׁפְרָ֥ה עָלָֽי׃

6Delightful country has fallen to my lot;lovely indeed is my estate.

ז׳אֲבָרֵ֗ךְ אֶת־יְ֭הֹוָה אֲשֶׁ֣ר יְעָצָ֑נִי אַף־לֵ֝יל֗וֹת יִסְּר֥וּנִי כִלְיוֹתָֽי׃

7I bless GOD who has guided me;my conscienceeconscience Lit. “kidneys.” admonishes me at night.

ח׳שִׁוִּ֬יתִי יְהֹוָ֣ה לְנֶגְדִּ֣י תָמִ֑יד כִּ֥י מִֽ֝ימִינִ֗י בַּל־אֶמּֽוֹט׃

8I am ever mindful of GOD’s presence—who is at my right hand; I shall never be shaken.

ט׳לָכֵ֤ן ׀ שָׂמַ֣ח לִ֭בִּי וַיָּ֣גֶל כְּבוֹדִ֑י אַף־בְּ֝שָׂרִ֗י יִשְׁכֹּ֥ן לָבֶֽטַח׃

9So my heart rejoices,my whole being exults,and my body rests secure.

י׳כִּ֤י ׀ לֹא־תַעֲזֹ֣ב נַפְשִׁ֣י לִשְׁא֑וֹל לֹֽא־תִתֵּ֥ן חֲ֝סִידְךָ֗ לִרְא֥וֹת שָֽׁחַת׃

10For You will not abandon me to Sheol,or let Your faithful one see the Pit.

י״אתּֽוֹדִיעֵנִי֮ אֹ֤רַח חַ֫יִּ֥ים שֹׂ֣בַע שְׂ֭מָחוֹת אֶת־פָּנֶ֑יךָ נְעִמ֖וֹת בִּימִינְךָ֣ נֶֽצַח׃ {פ}

11You will teach me the path of life.In Your presence is perfect joy;delights are ever in Your right hand.

י״ז

א׳תְּפִלָּ֗ה לְדָ֫וִ֥ד שִׁמְעָ֤ה יְהֹוָ֨ה ׀ צֶ֗דֶק הַקְשִׁ֥יבָה רִנָּתִ֗י הַאֲזִ֥ינָה תְפִלָּתִ֑י בְּ֝לֹ֗א שִׂפְתֵ֥י מִרְמָֽה׃

1A prayer of David.Hear, O ETERNAL One, what is just;heed my cry, give ear to my prayer,uttered without guile.

ב׳מִ֭לְּפָנֶיךָ מִשְׁפָּטִ֣י יֵצֵ֑א עֵ֝ינֶ֗יךָ תֶּחֱזֶ֥ינָה מֵישָׁרִֽים׃

2My vindication will come from You;Your eyes will behold what is right.

ג׳בָּ֘חַ֤נְתָּ לִבִּ֨י ׀ פָּ֘קַ֤דְתָּ לַּ֗יְלָה צְרַפְתַּ֥נִי בַל־תִּמְצָ֑א זַ֝מֹּתִ֗י בַּל־יַעֲבׇר־פִּֽי׃

3You have visited me at night, probed my mind,You have tested me and found nothing amiss;I determined that my mouth should not transgress.

ד׳לִפְעֻלּ֣וֹת אָ֭דָם בִּדְבַ֣ר שְׂפָתֶ֑יךָ אֲנִ֥י שָׁ֝מַ֗רְתִּי אׇרְח֥וֹת פָּרִֽיץ׃

4As for mortals’ dealings,in accord with the command of Your lips,aI determined … lips Meaning of Heb. uncertain. I have kept in view the fatebfate Cf. Prov. 1.19; lit. “paths.” of the lawless.

ה׳תָּמֹ֣ךְ אֲ֭שֻׁרַי בְּמַעְגְּלוֹתֶ֑יךָ בַּל־נָמ֥וֹטּוּ פְעָמָֽי׃

5My feet have held to Your paths;my legs have not given way.

ו׳אֲנִֽי־קְרָאתִ֣יךָ כִֽי־תַעֲנֵ֣נִי אֵ֑ל הַֽט־אׇזְנְךָ֥ לִ֝֗י שְׁמַ֣ע אִמְרָתִֽי׃

6I call on You;You will answer me, God;turn Your ear to me,hear what I say.

ז׳הַפְלֵ֣ה חֲ֭סָדֶיךָ מוֹשִׁ֣יעַ חוֹסִ֑ים מִ֝מִּתְקוֹמְמִ֗ים בִּֽימִינֶֽךָ׃

7Display Your faithfulness in wondrous deeds,You who deliver with Your right handthose who seek refuge from assailants.

ח׳שׇׁ֭מְרֵנִי כְּאִישׁ֣וֹן בַּת־עָ֑יִן בְּצֵ֥ל כְּ֝נָפֶ֗יךָ תַּסְתִּירֵֽנִי׃

8Guard me like the apple of Your eye;hide me in the shadow of Your wings

ט׳מִפְּנֵ֣י רְ֭שָׁעִים ז֣וּ שַׁדּ֑וּנִי אֹיְבַ֥י בְּ֝נֶ֗פֶשׁ יַקִּ֥יפוּ עָלָֽי׃

9from the wicked who despoil me,my mortal enemies whocmy mortal enemies who Or “from my enemies who avidly.” encircle me.

י׳חֶלְבָּ֥מוֹ סָּגְר֑וּ פִּ֝֗ימוֹ דִּבְּר֥וּ בְגֵאֽוּת׃

10Their hearts are closed to pity;dTheir hearts are closed to pity Meaning of Heb. uncertain. they mouth arrogance;

י״אאַ֭שֻּׁרֵינוּ עַתָּ֣ה (סבבוני) [סְבָב֑וּנוּ] עֵינֵיהֶ֥ם יָ֝שִׁ֗יתוּ לִנְט֥וֹת בָּאָֽרֶץ׃

11now they hem in our feet on every side;they set their eyes roaming over the land.

י״בדִּמְיֹנ֗וֹ כְּ֭אַרְיֵה יִכְס֣וֹף לִטְרֹ֑ף וְ֝כִכְפִ֗יר יֹשֵׁ֥ב בְּמִסְתָּרִֽים׃

12They areeThey are Heb. “He is.” like a lion eager for prey,a king of beasts lying in wait.

י״גקוּמָ֤ה יְהֹוָ֗ה קַדְּמָ֣ה פָ֭נָיו הַכְרִיעֵ֑הוּ פַּלְּטָ֥ה נַ֝פְשִׁ֗י מֵרָשָׁ֥ע חַרְבֶּֽךָ׃

13Rise, O ETERNAL One! Go forth to meet my enemies.fmy enemies Heb. “him.” Bring them down;rescue me from the wicked with Your sword,

י״דמִ֥מְתִֽים־יָדְךָ֨ ׀ יְהֹוָ֡ה מִֽמְתִ֬ים מֵחֶ֗לֶד חֶלְקָ֥ם בַּֽחַיִּים֮ (וצפינך) [וּֽצְפוּנְךָ֮] תְּמַלֵּ֢א בִ֫טְנָ֥ם יִשְׂבְּע֥וּ בָנִ֑ים וְהִנִּ֥יחוּ יִ֝תְרָ֗ם לְעוֹלְלֵיהֶֽם׃

14from mortals, O ETERNAL One, with Your hand,from mortals whose share in life is fleeting.But as to Your treasured ones,fill their bellies.gfrom mortals, O ETERNAL ONE, … fill their bellies Meaning of Heb. uncertain. Their children too shall be satisfied,and have something to leave over for their young.

ט״ואֲנִ֗י בְּ֭צֶדֶק אֶחֱזֶ֣ה פָנֶ֑יךָ אֶשְׂבְּעָ֥ה בְ֝הָקִ֗יץ תְּמוּנָתֶֽךָ׃ {פ}

15Then I, justified, will behold Your face;awake, I am filled with the vision of You.
